5 Winter Skin Care Tips for Hydrated Healthy Skin

5 Winter Skin Care Tips for Hydrated Healthy Skin

The timeless adage, “never judge a book by its cover,” is often easier said than done. However, if we don’t want to be judged by our “cover,” shouldn’t we take the best care possible of it? As the leaves and the temperatures continue to drop, it seems only fitting to celebrate National Healthy Skin Month in November.

Our cover, or our skin, tells more of our story than we might care to admit. It’s time to take care of ourselves with these five winter skin care tips.

Start from the Inside

That’s right! What you do to the inside of your body can impact your skin more than you know. Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking at least 64 ounces of water each day. That’s the minimum. If you are not a water fan, try a few of these tricks to help increase your water intake:

  • Include a glass of water in your morning routine.
  • Carry a water bottle with you throughout your day.
  • Add sugar-free flavoring to your water.
  • Try adding fruits, vegetables or herbs to your water. Fun combinations like watermelon, cucumber or lemon-lime do help!
  • Sip water at your desk during the day or make the goal to drink a bottle of water on your nightly commute.
  • Incorporate snacks into your diet that are high in water content like oranges, cucumbers and celery

Making sure you stay hydrated is so important to your overall health, and hydration plays a vital role in healthy skin, especially in the winter months.

It is also important to avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol. Finally, consider adding some healthy fats to your diet like olive oil or avocado to improve your winter skin.

Avoid Hot Showers

Nothing feels better when coming in out of the cold than a long, hot shower. But did you know that long, hot showers are damaging your skin? The hot water draws out the oil from your skin, making dry skin even drier.

If you are like the HyaGlo® Team, and really enjoy a hot shower, shorten the time you are in shower, or simply turn down the heat. A warm shower still cleans your body and won’t damage your skin.

Don’t Skimp on Sunscreen

We often associate sunscreen with the sunshine of summer. However, winter’s bright rays UV rays can also cause damage, leading to skin cancer. Sunscreen protects your skin from skin cancer and adds another layer of moisturizer to your winter skin.

Exfoliate Regularly

Any skin care product you use from body oils, cleansers, lotions and serums will work best when your skin is exfoliated regularly. Exfoliation is when those dead skin cells are scrubbed and rinsed away, leaving your skin smooth and bright. You can exfoliate with a loofah, brush and some cleansers with exfoliating agents built into them.

Develop a Winter Skin Care Regime

Hopefully you have a skin care routine that consists of at least washing and moisturizing your skin. However, due to how the winter weather wreaks havoc on our skin, you might need to update your routine to further protect your skin from the elements.

Use a High-Quality Moisturizer

One of the best ways to help moisturize and hydrate winter skin is with a high-quality, all-natural moisturizer like HyaGlo® Moisturizer. This highly concentrated hyaluronic acid moisturizer is designed to enhance hydration and soothe skin with all-natural, effective ingredients.

It is enriched with Glysyn® Hyaluronan, a trademarked vegan-friendly hyaluronic acid formula to draw in moisture for healthy skin hydration. HyaGlo Moisturizer includes vitamins A, C, E & B complex peptides for long-lasting smooth and supple skin. It is designed to enhance hydration and soothe skin and is uniquely and naturally water-based to eliminate the need for chemical manipulation.

Glysyn Hyaluronan is a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) formula made specifically for topical absorption. It helps skin absorb and retain hydration, acts as a transdermal absorbing agent, and allows the skin to absorb and retain other nutrients. This not only helps skin stay hydrated throughout the day, but also helps other skin care products work more efficiently.

Other Key Ingredients

HyaGlo Moisturizer contains two other key ingredients, besides water. They include marshmallow root and peptide complex.

Marshmallow root is derived from the root of the Altaea plant. It is known to provide anti-inflammatory benefits, help soften skin, reduce swelling and kill bacteria. It also provides relief from itching, swelling, redness and chaffing. Marshmallow root is tolerable by those with allergies and hypersensitive skin.

Peptide complex helps penetrate the outer layer of skin more deeply and signal to the skin to increase production of collagen and elastin. Regular use leads to firmer, more youthful-looking skin, and it works well in tandem with hyaluronic acid. This peptide complex reduces the appearance of dark undereye circles, improves the skin’s natural defense barrier to protect against bacteria, UV rays, pollution, and other toxins.

HyaGlo Moisturizer is suited for all skin types. For best results, use morning and night after cleansing your skin with your favorite face wash. It works best when used over the HyaGlo® Hydrating Serum.

More HyaGlo Products?

Yes, there are a total of four HyaGlo products that you will want to add to your winter skin care routine. We’ve already highlighted the benefits of the HyaGlo Moisturizer.

Although most people think of a moisturizer as part of their skin care routine for their face, moisturizer can be used wherever you experience rough, dry skin. In the winter, you are more likely to have dry, and although safe for your face, can also be used on the rough, dry patches on the backs of your hands from excessive hand washing, too.

Now, let’s learn more about the other HyaGlo products.

HyaGlo Hydrating Serum

Start enjoying smoother, softer and healthier looking skin with HyaGlo® Hydrating Serum. This concentrated HA serum replenishes skin hydration resulting in plump, glowing and noticeably smoother skin. Like other HyaGlo products, Glysyn Hyaluronan is the key ingredient in this all-natural skin serum, which is perfect for your winter skin routine.

The Hydrating Serum is true to its name. It works naturally to relieve dryness, fine lines, wrinkles and dry skin, all which can be magnified due to the harshness of winter. It alleviates fine lines and wrinkles, leaves skin dramatically refined, more youthful appearing and silky smooth.

Repeated applications of HyaGlo Hydrating Serum is a long-term skincare solution that addresses the source of concern without using abrasive substances or chemicals found in other cosmetics. It is designed for all skin types and is designed to be applied twice daily after washing your face.

HyaGlo Clarifying Serum

The next product in the HyaGlo family is HyaGlo® Clarifying Serum, designed to naturally address occasional skin irritations. It is a revolutionary formula that combines the benefits of beta glucans from schizophyllan to relieve and restore blemished skin as well as improve skin texture and appearance with our natural HA. Schizophyllan is a powerful beta glucan derived from mushrooms to naturally clarify and restore problem skin.

Glysyn Hyaluronan rejuvenates and soothes with hydrated, bright and glowing results! Our unique low molecular weight HA formula is absorbed by the skin and penetrates deeper than other hyaluronic acids on the market. It is tailored at the molecular level for topical application and optimized for transdermal delivery.

HyaGlo Clarifying Serum is the perfect addition to your winter skin care routine. It can help soothe dry and cracked skin. It works well on any problem skin or skin irritations you might encounter.

Created for problematic skin, gently massage the serum into the irritated area after cleaning and as needed.

We Saved the Best for Last

Perhaps one of the most exciting products that we offer for your winter skin care regime is the HyaGlo® Facial Mist. This vegan-friendly hyaluronic acid Facial Mist or setting spray instantly refreshes skin and boosts hydration. This light spray is infused with cucumber and hydrophilic (water-loving) hyaluronic acid for a quick hydration boost with skin soothing properties.

We combined two of our favorite key ingredients, Glysyn Hyaluronan and cucumber extract to develop this mist that delivers hydration deeply into the skin. Cucumber extract provides soothing and cooling effects, making it especially beneficial for those with sensitive or irritated skin. Cucumber is known as a superfood for the skin.

It is a popular ingredient in skincare because it has been used for decades to address common skin concerns like hydration, aging, and inflammation. (Remember, when we recommended eating cucumbers or adding them to your water for hydration, earlier in this piece?)

Loaded with antioxidants, which help fight oxidative damage caused by free radicals, the cucumber extracts are also rich in vitamin C, caffeic acid and folic acid. These can help to brighten skin, help increase collagen production and defend against premature aging of the skin. The cooling and anti-inflammatory effect of cucumbers may also help ease pain, redness and irritation caused by sunburn.

Use the HyaGlo Facial Mist on clean skin throughout the day to prime and hydrate. It will boost your skin hydration, making you feel refreshed. Who wouldn’t want to add that to their winter skin care routine?

The Importance of Winter Skin Care

We’ve given you a breakdown of how to build out a winter skin care kit, and what to do to keep your skin healthy during the colder months. But why is it even important?

As far as many folks are concerned, winter skin care should be the exact same as skin care any other time of the year. The reality is that winter presents our skin with very unique stressors. And if you want to keep your skin healthy and looking it’s best, it’s important to know what winter conditions do to skin.

What Winter Does to Skin

Winter weather can have several adverse effects on the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and other issues. Here are some ways that winter can damage your skin:

Cold Air

Cold air lacks humidity, and exposure to it can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness. The outer layer of the skin, known as the stratum corneum, can become compromised, making it more susceptible to irritation.

Low Humidity

During winter, the air tends to be drier, both outdoors and indoors due to heating systems. Low humidity can cause the skin to lose moisture more quickly, resulting in dry and dehydrated skin.

Wind

Surprising nobody after our previous two talking points, wind can be a real damper on healthy, moisturized skin. Winter winds can be harsh and can further strip the skin of its natural oils. Windburn can occur, which is similar to sunburn but caused by exposure to cold and windy conditions.

Indoor Heating

So, this can be a surprising tidbit, but your home heating can have a huge impact on your skin. Central heating systems used indoors can contribute to a decrease in humidity, leading to dry skin. Artificial heating can also cause the skin to become dehydrated.

Reduced Water Intake

In colder weather, people may be less inclined to drink as much water as they do in warmer months. This naturally results in increased dehydration. That’s to say nothing of the fact that people tend to drink more alcohol and caffeine during colder months, which both dehydrate our bodies even further. If it wasn’t clear, dehydration contributes to skin dryness. Nobody wants that.

Stress

Our skin is an extension of every other system in our body. And just like our body reacts negatively to stress, our skin does too. Winter can play a huge part in lots of people’s stress levels! From the pressure of holidays to seasonal depression, winter months impact our mental wellbeing, which in turn can make our stress levels (and skin health) worse.
